this is wonderful news for our family as both dh and i have medical conditions that require script drugs...and that won't be covered for a full year under his new insurance (once it starts at the beginning of the year.)

from what i can see on the list, it will affect one or two that i take daily and the one major one dh is supposed to take daily. this is HUGE for our family, as we've gone largely unmedicated (and therefore untreated) during his unemployment.

i've got really mixed feelings about this given that they are seriously undercutting other pharmacies, including many smaller ones that can't afford to offer the generics at those prices but on the other hand for the uninsured or under-insured, including the elderly...this is huge.

I agree about them undercutting everyone. It's a great benefit for those of us who need it, but it really hurts other businesses. It's a catch 22.

Wow, how fabulous! I doubt DS' seizure meds are on there, but this will definitely help MIL who is on a very fixed income and cant make ends meet. If her heart/cholesterol meds are not on the list, we will be asking her Dr to change her script if it is at all possible!

But man, Walmart cant win can they? Either they are hurting the working poor by not offering health insurance, or they are hurting their competition by offering this script program. :confused:

I think it wonderful that its a private organization offering this, and not the state via their medicaid program, so that only "certain" people would qualify. Like Tracey (for example) might not, since her DH probably makes too much, even though this program will be great for them.

As a libertarian, I am thrilled to see the free market working w/o govt interference!

jenn...you're absolutely right. dh's income has been cut in half (quite literally) but because we are homeowners and have two vehicles (nevermind that one is 19yo, because one is only 2yo we get nabbed) we can't qualify for *any* gov't assistance.

at least that is what i was told when i called and asked when he was unemployed.

we're hoping (and praying. and hoping. and praying.) that it will only be 3-6m like he was told when hired before we're back up where we were but if not, and if not for this sort of thing, we'd not be able to get some of our meds. my dh can be an ass but i kinda like him :heart: and want him around (if he doesn't take his diabetes meds he won't be around long yk?)

I actually heard CVS ( a drug store around here) was doing something like that last year and then I never head about it again. Weird, I guess Walmart must think they can do it better.

We already have a couple Super Walmarts with Dr Offices in them. They are more like an Urgent Care Center though. Oh and they are $50 for a check-up.

people around here might actually be able to afford preventive health care, even without insurance. Of course, $24 OVs would beat the $50 OV, but this is here now, and it's actually about what I pay WITH insurance. :p

whoa. i didn't realize that guy had a yearly membership option. that may be less than our (upcoming) deductible plus co-pay issue, given the thyroid and diabetes issues around these parts...pay him $1000 for both of us and voila...all labs and visits for a year are free. i think i'd still take the boys to dr. kute just because she's the shiznit for peds but that's good to know.

i like the politics of it too...seems like wise consumerism to me. side-stepping the insurance giants. i bet those docs are libertarian party members :joker:
